Personal profile

About

Jorge began his career as an industrial designer, working in the automotive, transportation, and energy sectors, where he developed advanced skills in computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacturing (CAM). He was also a lead trainer for CAD/CAM engineering software in aeronautics, metal working, molding, and manufacturing industries and initiated three-dimensional (3D) and robotic technologies into his industrial workflows. He began working for one of Spain’s leading heritage preservation firms in 2004 and his innovative use of 3D techniques and technologies resulted in his appointment as a Director of a subsidiary company specializing in 3D and digital applications for preservation. These skills opened new avenues to preserve, conserve, and restore Spanish history and patrimony. In 2008, he created his own company that provided advanced 3D scanning and digital documentation services for the public, private, and academic sectors with specialization in museums, artifacts, and archaeological sites across Spain, including several UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Mr. Gonzalez is the 3D Engineer and Heritage Specialist with the University of South Florida Library’s Digital Heritage and Humanities Collections, and leader in 3D modeling research, laser scanning and reality capture technologies. His work involves CAD, 3D printing and fabrication pipelines. He is an Expert Member of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) International Scientific Committee of Architectural Photogrammetry (CIPA).
