Abstract
Editors of library and information science literature — in most cases librarians first — have lived out mediation from the universal to the specific. They then take this experience, do a 180 degree turn, and live out mediation from the specific to the universal.
This essay first addresses the role of editors in general and second the role of editors in the library and information science disciplines. Its purpose is to demonstrate that editing, like librarianship, when performed with high standards of ethics, commitment, and ideals is one of those unsung labors that contribute to the world of learning in a steady and inexorable flow.
