Education for Collection Development in the Electronic Age: With an Emphasis on Public Libraries

Abstract

New computer-based technologies are evincing revolutionary changes in the educational curriculum for schools of library and information science, and the area of collection development is no exception. The topics discussed in the author's Collection Development course at the University of South Florida are described, with an emphasis on the problems likely to be presented to future public librarians as further emphasis is placed on access to electronic forms of information.
