International real estate.

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Real estate represents a significant form of investment throughout the world that is sometimes overshadowed by the stock and bond markets. Investments in real estate once focused on direct investments in land and developed properties, and this chapter covers important aspects that vary across national borders that should be considered when making investment decisions. Investors interested in real estate now have more choices than in the past. The globalization of financial markets now makes it possible for investors to include real estate in their portfolios by trading in financial securities such as Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs). This chapter examines the unique characteristic of these securitized real estate investments and focuses on their performance in the global financial markets.
