Abstract

The Adult Education Act was twenty-five years old in 1991. In celebration of this event, the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Vocational and Adult Education and the Library of Congress' Center for the Book jointly sponsored commemoration of the event. The Office of Educational Research and Improvement contributed to the occasion by commissioning papers describing the role of public libraries in adult education.
