Abstract
Wartime prostitution has taken on many forms throughout history, but it has remained a constant presence on or near front lines. Several factors contribute to the proliferation of wartime prostitution, including efforts to build morale within the historically hyper-masculine military culture and the distant nature of conflict. For civilians, primarily young women, living in or near conflict zones, prostitution represents one of the few means to maintain an income during a war.
