Representación e Inclusión del Caribe en los Libros de Texto de las Escuelas Primarias en los Estados Unidos

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

This article surveys the most popular elementary school social studies textbooks used in the United States to determine how and to what extent the Caribbean is depicted and included. As a whole, a frequency analysis revealed that inclusion and discussion of the Caribbean are virtually nonexistent, especially in the lower grade levels. Perhaps even more disturbing, however, is that when the region was discussed in some depth, much of the information was incomplete, incorrect, or grossly biased.
