Abstract
This research synthesis reviews qualitative and quantitative studies performed in the past 21 years exploring the effects of arts integration on student cognition, affective outcomes, social outcomes, academic achievement, and the school environment. The author briefly discusses the four styles of arts integration and reviews the findings between arts participation and student achievement, especially for diverse learners. The author argues that arts integration should be considered by more educational leaders as a way to increase adequate yearly progress for all students within our current context of declining educational budgets and limited resources.
