The Academic Library in the Program Review Process

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The perceptions of library directors, chief academic officers, and the staff members of the state coordinating agencies in selected states are examined concerning the academic library's role in the program review process, and particularly in the review of new programs. Library-related procedures for reviewing new and/or existing programs in the states studied ranged from a very elaborate procedure of list checking and citation analysis to the other extreme of just a simple statement in a new program proposal stating that the library could support the program. It is argued that library directors should lobby for a greater involvement in the planning process both within the institution and within the state coordinating agency.
